Dear Stuart,

I am terribly pleased to be the first (I believe) to offer you congratulations in your forum for surmounting obstacles that were to great for Polar themselves, to create a Macintosh program that can work with the Polar RS800cx, despite Polar's engineers' bizarre disregard for standards and accepted formats.

I realise that your program is still a beta, and so I am neither surprised nor at all put off by the fact that (at least for me) it is able to transfer data from my Polar watch to my Macintosh somewhat haphazardly. If Polar had any sense, they will hire you before you finish the full release!

I will be purchasing a copy of your program, and I hope that the support of the community of Mac Polar-users will be able to support your efforts.

I look forward to the finished product, especially if you are able to incorporate the GPS data and Google mapping.

Thanks!
A

Hi,
Just to expand on my reply in the blog.

Can you send me a couple of sample files with the GPS data, if you have the unit, please. To do this:

1. Tick the 'Log Transactions' checkbox in the download dialog box.

2. Download the data normally.

3. You should find a folder called 'iSMARTtrain Saved Data' in your 'Documents' folder. This contains the raw data read off the watch.

Can you send me the files in the saved data folder, please.

Thanks & Regards

Stuart

Hi Stuart

First i must congratulate you, with making this work - You have my deepest respect..

I've just got my rs800cx PTE and would like to send you some sample files, BUT.... I cant get the new beta to download from the watch.. I have two different IR reader (both polar)
1: the first is the one i have used with my 725X - the black IR adapter - serial + adaptor. Image
2: The other is the one that came with the RS800cx PTE - The small black USB2-IR stick. Image

I have downloadet the drivers you are referring to and can't seem to get it to work properly. It wont detect the USB2-IR stick (2).. When I use the old one (1), I cant choose the rs800cx from the "device" menu, but only the normal S-series, 725x, etc..

I found this on polar's support site:
http://forum.polar.fi/showthread.php?t=1134
stating that the are many versions of the new USB2-IR sticks.. I got the black one.. I think the problem might be that is has the MOS chipset ..
he old Polar IrDA USB 2.0 Interface use a SigmaTel STiR4210 Chipset. The new ones uses a MosChip Chipset. Thats maybe the main difference...

Picturesdumps:

With serial connecter (1)

With USB2-IR (2)

can you confirm this suspecion and maybe specify which IR-stick you are using to get a succesfull download from the RS800 ?

I've been thinking of getting an advanced HRM for a while now, and had more or less given up on Polar because of their failure to support us Mac users. The possibility of using iSMARTtrain to download data from Polar HRMs changes this, obviously :-)

I downloaded the beta release with the intent of testing it out with an RS400 that I'm borrowing, but it seems that downloading is not available without a license code. Can anybody confirm that this is the case?

Hi,
The demo version of iSMARTtrain is fully functional, but only lets you have a maximum of 20 sessions in your database.

Yes, I figured this out (eventually) :-)

I removed some of the demo sessions, and was able to upload data from the RS400. This took some time to get right, primarily because the watch needs to be positioned just right in order to communicate with the IRDA adapter.

Happy so far; will be interesting to see the graphs from my squash session this afternoon :-)

Hi,
I'm not sure if it's a positioning issue, or just that you need to try a couple of times to get the communication to work - Beta 5 only tries to communicate once, then gives up - the next release will try a number of times.

I suspect that the IrDA driver is still a bit buggy in this regard, which I hope to get fixed soon.

Stuart,

Waited a long time for this and love the fact that it's almost a go. I have tried the Beta but have had no luck getting it to download...yet. I'm sure I must be doing something wrong.

Here's the info from the log file (not sure if it'll help):
