s625x+keyspan+polar ir serial+lion: not functional

Post by yxcv » Fri Oct 21, 2011 3:45 pm

Dear ismarttrain-support,

I'm looking forward to kill my Parallels-Windows-XP-Polar Precision Perfomance-Installation and using an native Mac-App

I purchased all the stuff i need to get my s625x working with ismarttrain. Getting an Polar-Serial-Interface was very difficult and dont ask, what I've paid...

Now download is failing and I'm dissappointed. This is my setup, and I hope I can get some support here:

-ismarttrain 3.0.9 purchased in the AppStore
-MacBook OSX-Lion 10.7.2
-Polar s625x
-Polar Serial Interface N2965

-Tripp-Lite Keyspan USA-19HS
-installed latest driver keyspanUSAdrvr_v2.6.b5.pkg from here:http://www.tripplite.com/en/products/model.cfm?txtModelID=3914
-Keyspan Serial Assistant V2.6 gives these debug info: version 3 Verstring 2.6b4 [10/24/2007 01:45p 27,881 USA90 2007oct24 13:45}]
-also two ports appear named KeySerial1 and USA19H62P1.1 (see Screenshots)

Download-Approach
1. S625x set to Connect via the up and down buttons
2. Pushing Download in ismarttrain
3. Choosing Port KeySerial1 and Device Polar-S-Series and check logging
4. Getting all inline and hit Ok
5. Now the green led of the keyspan flashes and i can see a little flashing diode inside the polar-ir-interface
6. altough the polar s625x does not show any sign of reaction and after some seconds of "getting overview" ismarttrain says "no data recieved..."

tried the same with the other port: same outcome

this is the logfile:

When using the alternative download manual single step method like mentioned here http://www.ismarttrain.com/articles/AlterDownload.php it works as describend. But thats NOT the way I want to work.

Any Ideas how to get the Download working ?

Best regards,

Hi,
From the log file you sent me, it looks like the software doesn't understand the response from your S65x, and requests the data again, eventually timing out. I'm not sure why this is, without further investigation - as you're probably aware, the communication protocol from the Polar devices isn't available form Polar, so we've had to reverse-engineer it, and there's always the danger that something can crop up which we haven't encountered before, as seems to be the case in this instance.

As the downloading works using the alternative method, it doesn't look like there's any problem with your hardware. Until we get to the bottom of this and release an update, you can use the alternative method to get the data off your watch. If you go into the 'Preferences' and go to the 'Advanced" tab, you'll see an option 'Show Polar Manual Download'. If you tick this checkbox, you'll see a new option in the 'Download' dialog box, 'Polar S625x/S725x Manual Download'. If you select this option, you should be able to download all the data from the watch in one go, by following the instructions for the 'Alternative Download', but selecting 'ALL' on the watch instead of just a single session.

Any problems, let me know.

Regards

Stuart

Dear Stuart,

Thank you for your answer. I'm not an full time engineer, but working in the IT-Department of a large medical facility with a lot of data-interfaces and comm-servers between multiple devices from different producers. So I know the bad days, when an interface goes down, despite hours an hours spent setting up the interface, understanding the the message-syntax, mapping the items and scripting the database. I appreciate the efforts of establishing an interface with a non-documented device.

The workaround of manual downloading all Data in a row is exactly the comfort I expected. Fine ! I really like that ismarttrain checks, if the dataset is alread imported an will mark it and uncheck the import-checkbox. It remains, that I am not able to mange my Device-Settings.
Is this problem of communication with s-series/s625x an bug or a function, which never existed ?
Nevertheless I'm looking forward for an update, which will make it possible to kill the PPP-Software completely.
If you need additional Information or Logs for Debugging, I would be pleased to help.

After getting a step further with comms, now I noticed this bugs/missing functions:

-Ugly mixing up of german and englisch words in the application (seems to me like incomplete localization). And -with respect- the words used, seem to come from Google-Translation (for example "Cancel" should be "Abbruch" and not "Stornieren"). Some of the buttons are smaller than the german description, so the description is cut off. I searched for an option to force a complete englisch localization but couldn't find it under Preferenzen. If you need support by updating the german localization, I would be able to assist as native german speaker.

-Day-associated data like Temperature, body-weight, sleeping-hours, day-comment inculded in PDD/HRM-Files from PPP 4.03.046 is not imported to ismarttrain. I think those data belongs in the area "keywords" and "day details" (screenshot and PDM/HRM-File with a example dataset attached).
As you can see the data can be found in the section (DayInfo). If you are aware of the missing decimal point in the dataset, the location of temp, weight, comment and so on is evident.
My PPP contains 6 Years of Training and hundrets of datasets, so I really would like to request the feature of importing also the day-associated data from PPP.

out of interest, which driver did you install? The beta for Lion?

when I installed Lion, I think it blasted the driver I'd previously installed (and which was working), boo. :(
