Hi,
Sorry to (prob) re-post here but searching the forum shows no results because the keywords are too common...
anyway, I was wondering if people have had success using Serial-USB adapters other than the recommended Keyspan USA-19HS with the Polar IR wotsit and S-series HRMs? The USA-19HS seems pretty expensive here in the UK compared to alternatives but I'm wondering if the cheap ($5) ones are just that. cheap?
Thanks

Re: Other RS232-USB Adapters than Keyspan with Polar IR
Hi,
As long as the adaptor has Mac drivers for your version of Mac OS X, then it should work. However, we've found that the keyspan devices have given us less problems than the other models on the market, hence the reason we recommend them.

Stuart

It'll come with drivers, but it's always a good idea to download the latest ones from the manufacturer's site.

Other RS232-USB Adapters than Keyspan with Polar IR
Hi,
I tried it with a Lindy USB Seriell Konverter Lite, Article 42855, as the Keyspan
isn't available (up to 3 weeks!) at the moment in Switzerland. The Lindy is rather
cheap, so it was OK for a test.
ismarttrain 3.0.7 trial
Polar S720i
Polar USB IR Interface
OS X 10.6.4
Modellname: MacBook Pro
Modell-Identifizierung: MacBookPro3,1
Prozessortyp: Intel Core 2 Duo
Lindy claims, it should work with their drivers under OS X. Well, it did not
with my set-up. Was anybody else successful?
Best regards, Michael

Hi,
after I received support from Lindy UK (please find link to the latest drivers below) the
Lindy USB Seriell Konverter Lite, Article 42855
works now fast and reliable. Installation of the driver was very easy, the USB port
shows up in the network window. You don't have to care about the settings there
(don't be worried about the fact, that a modem is listed there...). ismarttrain seems
to find the infrared connection by itself.

OS X drivers for 10.6.x on Intel based Mac (32-bit only)
to be found here:
http://www.prolific.com.tw/eng/downloads.asp?ID=31
And don't forget: the Lindy USB Seriell Konverter Lite costs only
CHF 18.00 (!). About 12.00 Euro. Now I have to purchase ismarttrain
and generate more data to feed it...
