iSMARTtrain V3.0.5

V3.0.5 of iSMARTtrain is now available.

As usual, you can download a copy from

The main changes in this release are the addition of direct downloading from PowerTap and Garmin devices. The Garmin support is experimental at this stage and has only been tested with my Forerunner 301 and Edge 705. Let me know if there’s any problems.

There’s no map support for the Garmin gps data yet, but we’ve got this working and are just sorting out the licensing issues, before we can release it.

This release also fixes a bug where the laps weren’t imported correctly for iSMARTtrain xml files.

Hey there — thanks heaps for moving to include Garmin support .. I was just now thinking again about other software because of the issues with having to take the data from the Garmin training centre then import to iSMARTtrain — but knowing that you are moving to include Garmin I’ll certainly stick with iSMARTtrain. So Thanks!

    .. However — a bug report.

I load up iSMARTtrain, use Download > USB, Garmin Forerunner and connect my Forerunner 305*, this produces the following error:

bash: line 1: /Applications/ cannot execute binary file

This crashes the app. Though on one occasion it went to a following dialogue where it asked if I wanted to ‘upload’ information on user-name, weight, HR zones etc. etc. to the Garmin (though none of the data already in the Garmin was pre-filled in the fields).

Thanks again and really looking forward to 305 support. Also the mapping would be superb.

    Keep up the great work.

Oh, sorry, the ‘*’ in the previous post refers to the fact that the bug occurs whether I have the 305 connected or not.

I tried using this with a garmin edge 305 and had the following errors:

    1) bash:/Aplplications/ Bad CPU type in executable

    2) An Error, NilObjectException, has occured.
    Stack Trace:

    Version 3.0.5

    (Contact info)

    3) An Exception of class NilObjectException was not handled. The application must shut down.

I am running a powerbook G4. I will try on my other computer with and intel chip later and report if the same problems result.

  4. This is fixed in the next Release. Should be out soon.

    Thanks & Regards
